You will be aboard our 24’ Rigid-Hulled Inflatable Boat (RIB). RIBs are commonly used by Navy Seals and Coast Guard Rescue. Are Exclusive/Private charters available?

Yes, we often run exclusive charters for wedding parties, celebrations of life, small or large groups wanting the boat to themselves. To inquire about booking a private tour, please click here.

Do you offer a ride along ticket for those who don’t want to snorkel?

Space is Limited as we keep our groups small. Non-snorkelers are welcome on the trip, but there is no reduced ticket price if you choose not to snorkel.

What is the south shore reroute?

We do our very best to get up to the coast every day but we can not control mother nature. This is the case with many tours during the winter months, (October - March). In the event that we are not able to go up the coast due to high swell, high winds or bad weather, we will offer a south shore reroute to Kipu Kai. This 1 mile long U-shaped Bay is one of the most beautiful snorkeling spots in all of Hawai'i. Our trip here includes the same marine life that we would see when heading north (as well as humpback whales when in season) and will take you to a destination like no other. Most of our customers when given the option for a south shore reroute when told Na Pali is not a "go" for the day their trip is booked, are hesitant to do the reroute but once they get back from the trip everyone always has a smile on their face after experiencing one of the most beautiful spots in all of Hawai'i. When our staff calls or emails you to inform you of a south shore reroute, the option is still up to you. If you only wish to see the Na Pali Coast, and cant reschedule to a different day, we will be more than happy to refund you.

What types of marine life will we see?

The south shore is home to beautiful reefs that provide a home for some 200 or so indigenous Hawaiian marine species. You will have the opportunity to spot wonderful coral reefs, colorful reef fish, sea turtles, dolphins, and much more!

Can we touch the animals?

We maintain a respectful distance from humpback whales and follow all state and federal requirements.  All other marine life we get you as close as possible and in the water with them when it makes sense. Our goal is to allow you to be as close as possible. We let tourists swim with them ... the only thing you are not allowed to do is harass them via chasing them, cornering them, or touching them. Our captain's put you in the direct path of the sea life and were they are swimming and having you get in the water is common place and very exciting because more often then not the spinners will interact with the snorkelers and swim under and around them.

Will I see sharks in the water?

We typically do not see sharks on our trips and if we do see them, we maintain a safe distance. The types of sharks we see on the trips are quite harmless.

Is the snorkeling gear included?  Can I bring my own gear?

Yes, all of the gear is included in the price of your ticket. You are welcome to bring your own equipment, but there will be no discount on the ticket price. If you would like to bring your own gear, Blue Ocean Adventure Tours can supplement what you may need and we always carry on board spare masks and snorkels.

How long will we be in the water?

We spend more time in the water than other boats on the island.  Again we let nature rule the show, but will often spend 45 minutes or more at each snorkel site.

Can I bring food or drink on the trip?

Drinks and light snacks are included but feel free to bring additional food and drinks. Alcohol is strictly prohibited on the trip.

What should I wear/bring?

We recommend wearing a bathing suit with a couple of extra layers on for the ride over to the snorkeling or whale watching sites. We provide a dry bag for your personal belongings; just bring whatever you would need at the beach! Don’t forget a towel, sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen!

Will I get seasick?

We use a 24’  RIB (Rigid-hulled inflatable boat), which is often used by the Navy Seals due to its speed and maneuverability. If you are prone to motion sickness, you may want to take the necessary precautions and we advise you take motion sickness medication like Dramamine 1 hour before meeting us at the docks.  We also have some ginger ale on-board to soothe your stomach.

Do I need to know how to swim?

It is recommended that you have the desire to float and view marine life, we cannot create the desire to snorkel. Relaxing is the most important snorkel tip of all time!   You will also have personalized instruction in the water.

Will there be a restroom available during the tour?

It is preferred that you use the restrooms at the meeting spot before the start of the tour, as there will not be a bathroom to use once the tour begins. If you are on our beach landing tour, their is an out house available in the valley.

Do I have to wear a life vest?

You are not required to wear life jackets while on board, but we have them on board should you want to wear one.

Can I stow anything on the boat?

Yes, we provide dry bags for your personal belongings, but there is a limited amount of room, so please only bring what you need.

Do you recommend an underwater camera?

There is an abundance of life in the waters of Kauai and you never know what you’re going to see. We have GoPro's available to rent for $50. That includes the GoPro Camera Rental plus one SD card with all the photos from your trip for you to take home. If you damage or lose the GoPro, you will be liable for damages

Is smoking permitted on the boat?

No, there is no smoking during the tour.

Is there public parking available at the meeting location?

Yes, parking is available at the meeting location, on the right hand side of the main road by the coconut trees.
